Special Announcements, How do you…?

November 4th, 2011

There are many ways people announce their pregnancies to their friends and families – whether it’s a phone call to your mum or best friend, a sms to your closest friends, or a status update to let the world know.

Something which some of the Cake staff have noticed is the rise of image announcements, most notably with the dependence we have with social media – personally, recently seen in one of our Cake friends posting a pic of her new bub as a way to announce the birth of her first son. No phone calls, no message. Just an image.

The beautiful nature and simplicity of the image is that in one look it can create a mood and tell a story without physically saying anything at all.

Why do you think advertisements with little words are the most successful ones? Images sell, words just assist.

As the saying goes, a picture paints a thousand words and we must admit we absolutely loved how Singer, Jessica Simpson (officially) announced her pregnancy on Halloween a few days ago with this picture:

At first when checking her site it was a tad confusing seeing the title “It’s true! I’m going to be a mummy” – when Americans spell ‘mum’ as ‘mom’. (NB, Cake Lingerie is based in Australia ;) )

But when we saw the image, we understood her clever pun with costume intended, perfect timing for October 31st and to show the world her beautiful new curves! :)

How did you announce your pregnancy or birth?

Beyoncé Belly Blunder?

October 18th, 2011

Recently a lot of attention sparked from an Australian TV interview with international pop star and celebrity, Beyoncé Knowles which questioned her pregnancy with rapper, Jay-Z.

Seen in the visual, it appeared the singer’s belly ‘collapses’ as she sits down for the interview.

Oddly enough, what was said in the interview hasn’t been something which has resonated with people watching around the world, even though the hot topic on everyone’s lips a few weeks ago was the exciting news for the expectant and fashionable mother! Surely everyone would want to know more about her fantastic news right? We’re sure you’ll find all the videos on youtube too cut off after she sits – it doesn’t go on to the actual interview which is what can be seen as interesting.

Instead it is the images of her pregnant belly which have caused a stir. Was it the dress? Was it her bump? or something else?

Her rep has already responded as the whole thing as “stupid, ridiculous and false” to the claims of faking a pregnancy to ABC News.

Now, everyone at Cake Lingerie absolutely love this lady and think it is a beautiful thing whenever we hear the great maternity news of any woman – famous or not.

It makes us think, maybe with the rise of celebrity bumps over the years it has put a lot of pressure on these mothers to ’show more’ for everyone to see as they don’t want to let anyone down. This is a special time in their life, and of course they want to share it with those who mean the most to them – their fans.

Maybe consumer culture are too harsh on our idols? Or perhaps this was just a media ploy to have more people talking about her?

As the saying goes – an image is worth a thousand words – and this picture of her on the beach last month, she looks pretty pregnant to us!

What do you think?

Can Beauty and Function Co exist?

October 7th, 2011

A lot of online chatter this past month has asked the question if nursing bras can offer both a functional and fashionable options, at the same time.

Taking this discussion from a general overview it opens a lot of talk as there are hundreds of brands that offer different products and specialise in individual needs, which means a colourful mix of responses!

In terms of the luxury maternity bra market – this topic can be viewed a bit differently, as for a higher price point you can expect better quality, fabrics, styles, fit, comfort and support. Thus – can fashion/beauty and function co exist?

Often, perceptions of something ‘nice’ and ‘pretty’ have eluded to impracticality or something merely designed to look great and nothing more. OR, something can be overly functional but lack in comfort and colour.

How do you find or know a means that balances both?

However, other opinions from experience on the matter has noted quite the opposite – yes, they do and can co exist and it is great when it does.

In particular, one Cake Lingerie fan (Australia) said “I was suspicious that something so beautiful could be functional AND comfortable as well. Omg! These bras are amazing. I’ve been wearing the very functional but unsexy Triumph bra… I can’t believe your bras are so comfy and so gorgeous. It makes me feel so good!
Thanks so much.”

It’s not to say sacrificing function over fashion (or vice versa) is wrong, but for those who like to have a bra that can address both fields – it is possible.

So where does this leave you, from your experience can something be both beautiful and functional in a maternity bra?

On a side note – what do you think of this product? Is it fashion, function or both?!

The global campaign captures the true beauty of motherhood by featuring pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to represent the international designer maternity brand, Cake Lingerie.

Four ‘everyday moms’ will have the chance to become an international model and represent Cake Lingerie in Canada. They will spend a day on a professional photoshoot being pampered with products and having their hair and makeup specially done.

Cake Lingerie launched the “Real Mums, Real Fit” campaign in 2010 and it has witnessed an overwhelming response with hundreds of applications from around the world. The campaign has run in Australia, New Zealand, UK and Ireland, Finland, The Netherlands and France.

Fusion Maternité will launch the campaign this Friday, September 30th at the Salon de la Famille (Quebec City) in the Galeries de la Capitale, and there will be a fashion show on Saturday October 1st at 10.30am to celebrate the launch.

A booth will also be set up from September, Friday 30th to Sunday, October 2nd where applicants can bring any enquiries.

Colour your world

September 19th, 2011

We asked some of our favourite customers if they preferred colourful or neutral-toned bras, and the response was great!

85% said they preferred colourful styles.

15% preferred neutral styles.

From the group, a mixed 1/4 of them liked both styles depending on their mood and what they were wearing.

Figures like these indicate to us, the growing need for fashionable styles for pregnant and nursing mothers – who don’t want to give up their beautiful lingerie when their body’s are going through a transformation.

Likewise, this is how Cake Lingerie was established, from an idea and the longing need of a mother who wanted ‘pretty’ and gorgeous lingerie that would friend her throughout her pregnancy, and not make her feel like she was wearing ’somewhat boring’ and unflattering maternity lingerie.

Cake Lingerie empowers women with luxurious, fashion forward maternity lingerie with a variety of options from non wired soft cup, flexible wire, mould cup, seamless, balcony, plunge and nightwear.

Be sure to check out our new range available now. :)

What do you prefer to wear? Colour or Neutral?

August 24th, 2011

Are you a fan of our flexible wire bra?

Have you longed for larger bust sizes in our beautiful designs? Well now is your chance to speak up and let us know!

Released this week, 3 beautiful designs from our 2011/12 Birthday Cake collection – fuller figure bras (Cheesecake and Blue Cheesecake) and flexible wire bra (Licorice), available now online and from leading stores.

After much feedback for bigger band and cup sizes, we offer you our delightful new bras – which go up to a 40J (UK size). That’s an 18J in Australia, or a 40M in the US.

We still continue to have great response to wearing flexible wire during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters and after a month post birth, giving what mothers have said “the best lift and support”, “flexible wire earns a big tick” and “it’s finally nice to have the support I need!”

Licorice is the first flexible wire design to go beyond a size 38G (UK) of our previous styles, into a 40GG (UK).

Our Fuller Figure bras are our first of their kind, presenting a beautiful A-frame sling with 4 piece cup construction for comforting support, up to size 40J (UK).

If you happen to be one of the first to own this bra, drop us a comment below with how you like the fit and feel of it!

Fashion vs Versatile

August 16th, 2011

There are two types of women in the world when it comes to lingerie – those who love the latest fashion trends, and those who pride basics and practicality to get the most of their garments.

Fashion Collection – Turkish Delight (left) and Versatile Collection – Toffee Latte, available soon (right)

When it comes to Cake Lingerie, these two categories divide our collections, that is, Fashion and Versatile ranges, which have been uniquely put together to ensure both continue on delivering superb comfort, fit and support.

For us, fashion range refers to colourful styles that uses different trims, laces and fabrics for the fashion conscious and each collection lasts for about 18 months to adhere to current trends.

Whereas our versatile (basic) range refers to timeless and continuous pieces we will offer, that utilize neutral/basic colours and can be worn anytime, normally as an ‘everyday T-Shirt bra’,

Within these groups, we sub-categorise them under their rightful features and construction, such as how it’s made and supports the wearer (eg. Mould cup for smooth contour).

But it makes us wonder – what makes you more fashion or versatile? Or are you the other way around?

What styles would you like to see more of?
